The Explorer’s Inn at Tambopata has a long and distinguished
history of hosting visiting scientists, and indeed the presence of this
private hotel has facilitated the study of this region by ecologists from
all over the world. Anyone may make a reservation with Explorer’s
Inn by visiting their
website.
Scientific visitors to TCEI are also welcome, although we request that
potential visitors respect our time and ongoing experiments. Under agreement
with the PUCP, TCEI staff can help process the necessary applications
for research permits with the National Institute for Natural Resources
(INRENA), Peru’s wildlife protection agency, for those scientists
wishing to carry out studies based on the TCEI area and Tambopata National
Reserve. Processing a permit takes usually four to six weeks and the cost
varies between US$ 120 and US$ 160 depending on whether the project collects
biological specimens. The permits require an academic agreement between
the researcher´s institution and the PUCP. TCEI requires a nominal
processing fee of $40 for costs involved in submitting the permit application
and will provide INRENA and PUCP receipts for these fees to the researchers.
An additional export permit is required for those researchers who wish
to take biological specimens back to their home institutions; scientists
are required to incorporate a tagging system which allows INRENA and TCEI
to determine the specimens' location and eventual use, with special concern
for genetic material. |
